Everything you need to know

Straight answers about renting a car in Albania with RentGo Express.

Booking & confirmation

How does booking work on RentGo Express?+

You choose your dates and pickup location, browse available cars from local suppliers, and send a booking request. You pay 15% online (our commission) and the request is forwarded to the supplier. The supplier has up to 90 minutes during business hours (08:00–22:00) to accept or decline. Once accepted, your booking is confirmed and you receive a confirmation email with pickup details. The remaining 85% is paid in cash at pickup.

Is my booking instantly confirmed?+

Not immediately. Every booking waits for the supplier to accept it (usually within an hour). This is because suppliers verify availability, check the customer profile, and coordinate pickup. If the supplier does not respond within 90 minutes, your booking is automatically cancelled and your 15% prepayment is fully refunded.

What happens if the supplier declines my booking?+

You receive an email with the reason (unavailable, force majeure, etc.), and your prepayment is refunded within 5–7 business days to your original payment method. If a similar alternative vehicle is available at another supplier, we may propose it to you.

Can I book without creating an account?+

Yes. Just provide your name, email, and phone at checkout. Your confirmation goes to the email you provide, and you can track your booking with the reference number (RF-XXXXXX).

Payments, prices & fees

How much do I pay online vs at pickup?+

You pay 15% of the total online at booking (this is our commission). The remaining 85% is paid in cash directly to the supplier when you pick up the car. This split means suppliers get most of the money without payout delays, and you have a real financial commitment before the supplier holds a car for you.

What payment methods are accepted?+

Online: Visa, Mastercard, and (soon) local Albanian cards via raiAccept. At pickup: cash in EUR or ALL is universally accepted. Some suppliers also accept card at pickup — this varies, so ask when the supplier confirms your booking.

Are there any hidden fees?+

No. The daily rate you see includes standard third-party insurance provided by the supplier. Extras like child seat, GPS, additional driver, or cross-border fee are shown clearly before you confirm and only added if you select them.

Do I need to pay a security deposit?+

Most suppliers require a refundable deposit at pickup, typically held via a credit card authorisation (not charged unless there is damage). The deposit amount is shown on each vehicle page — usually €200–€800 depending on the vehicle category.

Cancellation & refunds

Can I cancel my booking?+

Yes, but the refund depends on timing.

Before the supplier accepts: free cancellation, full refund of the prepayment.

After acceptance, more than 48 hours before pickup: full refund of the 15%.

After acceptance, less than 48 hours before pickup: the 15% prepayment is non-refundable.

What if I do not show up at pickup?+

No-shows are not refundable. The supplier may also charge a no-show fee based on their rental agreement. If you are running late, contact the supplier directly using the phone number in your confirmation email — most will hold the car if you communicate.

How long do refunds take?+

Refunds are processed within 3 business days on our side. Depending on your bank, the funds appear in your account 5–10 business days after we process. You receive an email confirmation once the refund is issued.

Driver requirements

What is the minimum driver age?+

Most suppliers require a minimum age of 21 with at least 1 year of driving experience. Some premium or SUV categories require 25+ and 3+ years of experience. Each vehicle page shows the exact requirement for that specific car.

What documents do I need at pickup?+

Valid driving licence (held for at least 1 year), passport or ID card, and a credit card in the main driver's name for the security deposit. EU licences are accepted directly. Non-EU licences (US, UK, etc.) are widely accepted; an International Driving Permit may help but is not always required.

Can I add an additional driver?+

Yes. Most suppliers charge a small fee (€2–€5/day) for additional drivers. Add it as an extra during checkout, or arrange it directly with the supplier at pickup.

Cross-border & routes

Can I drive to Montenegro, Kosovo, or Greece?+

Yes, most suppliers allow cross-border travel to Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece — usually for an additional fee (€25–€50 for the entire trip) that covers the green card insurance extension. Each vehicle page shows which countries are allowed.

Is the car insured outside Albania?+

Yes, when you pay the cross-border fee, the supplier extends the insurance and provides a green card that you must carry at the border. Without paying this fee, driving abroad may void your insurance — do not risk it.

Can the car handle the road to Theth or Valbona?+

These mountain roads have some rough sections. A standard car is fine in summer, but a 4x4 or high-clearance SUV is more comfortable and safer, especially outside July–September. Ask the supplier when you book — they know their fleet and the roads.

Is this safe? Trust & protection

Is renting a car in Albania through RentGo Express safe, or is it a scam?+

It is safe. RentGo Express is an Albanian-owned marketplace, and every supplier is a registered Albanian business with a valid NIPT that we verify before they can list. You are not dealing with an anonymous individual — you book through the platform, you receive a written confirmation, and you have a real, accountable company behind every rental. Because you pay at pickup and inspect the car before you drive off, you stay in control at every step.

How do I know I will get the exact car I booked, not a different one?+

You book a specific vehicle from a specific supplier, and that is what they are committed to provide. If a supplier ever cannot deliver the exact car, they must offer a like-for-like or better vehicle at the same price, or you get a full refund with no penalty. Bait-and-switch to a worse car is a breach of our terms — if it happens, tell us and we act on it. This is exactly the kind of accountability a verified marketplace adds over renting from one person on WhatsApp.

What stops me being charged for scratches that were already on the car?+

The pre-rental inspection. Before you drive off, walk around the car and photograph every existing scratch, dent, and chip — including the wheels and bumpers — with a timestamp. A trustworthy supplier will do this walkthrough with you. Those photos are your protection: if a supplier later claims damage that was already there, your timestamped photos settle it. Never sign the paperwork or pay before you have seen and photographed the car.

Is the cheap price a sign the car will be a wreck?+

No — Albanian rental prices are genuinely low because local businesses have far lower costs than international chains, not because the cars are poor. That said, always check the vehicle page: the year, the photos, and the specifications are there for a reason. Our verification requires roadworthy vehicles, and the inspection at pickup is your final check. If a car arrives materially worse than its listing, you are within your rights to refuse it.

What if the car has a problem I only notice after pickup?+

Contact the supplier immediately, and us if needed. Warning lights, a fault that was not disclosed, or a safety issue are the supplier's responsibility. The earlier you report it, the easier it is to resolve — which is why the five-minute inspection at pickup matters so much. Do not drive a car you believe is unsafe.

The car, condition & insurance

Does the listing show the real mileage and year of the car?+

The vehicle page shows the year and specifications provided by the supplier, who is responsible for their accuracy. If the car you receive is materially different from its listing — far higher mileage, a missing feature you booked it for, or a different model — you can refuse it and are entitled to a like-for-like alternative or a full refund. If this happens, tell us so we can hold the supplier accountable.

What does insurance actually cover, and is "full insurance" worth it?+

Every rental includes third-party liability insurance by law (damage you cause to others). Beyond that, coverage varies by supplier, so always confirm in writing before you pay: what is the deductible, what is excluded (tyres, windshield, and undercarriage are commonly excluded even on "full" cover), and how a claim is handled. Ask the supplier to state the exact terms. If the terms are vague, that is a red flag — get them in writing or choose another car.

Will I be charged more than the price I saw when searching?+

The price on the vehicle page is the rental price. What can add to it: optional extras you choose (child seat, additional driver, GPS), a cross-border fee if you leave Albania, and the supplier's own deposit hold. There are no hidden platform fees. Before you confirm, the booking summary shows the full breakdown — check it, and ask the supplier to confirm there are no drop-off or cleaning charges you have not seen.

Do I have to return the car washed?+

Normally no — reasonable everyday dirt is expected and fine. Some suppliers may charge a cleaning fee only if the car is returned excessively dirty (mud inside, sand everywhere, smoking). Confirm the supplier's cleaning policy at pickup so there are no surprises at return.

How does the deposit work and will I get it back?+

Many suppliers hold a security deposit (typically €200–€500 depending on the vehicle) via a card authorisation at pickup — it is held, not charged, and released after you return the car undamaged. Some suppliers work without a deposit at all. The exact amount and method are shown on the vehicle page and confirmed by the supplier. As long as you return the car in the condition you received it — which your pickup photos prove — the hold is released.

Pickup, delivery & timing

How far is pickup from the airport arrivals, and will someone meet me?+

For airport bookings, your supplier's representative meets you in the arrivals area or just outside the terminal exit, holding a sign with your name. Some pickups involve a short walk to a nearby car park. Your confirmation includes the meeting point and the supplier's phone number — if anything is unclear, message them before you fly so you know exactly where to go.

What happens if my flight is delayed or lands after midnight?+

Tell the supplier your flight number when you book so they can track your arrival. Serious suppliers offer 24/7 or late-night pickup, sometimes with a small out-of-hours fee (€20–€35). Never assume a midnight pickup will just work — confirm it in advance and keep the supplier's number handy in case your plans change on the day.

Can the car be delivered to my hotel or dropped off in a different city?+

Often yes. Many suppliers deliver to your hotel and offer one-way rentals to another city (for example pick up in Tirana, drop off in Saranda) for an additional fee. Check the vehicle page or ask the supplier — availability and cost depend on the route.

Can I return the car later than booked?+

Usually this can be arranged — message the supplier as early as possible. A short delay is often accommodated flexibly; a longer extension may add a day's rental. Agreeing it in advance avoids any dispute at return.
