Everything you need to know
Straight answers about renting a car in Albania with RentGo Express.
Booking & confirmation
How does booking work on RentGo Express?+
You choose your dates and pickup location, browse available cars from local suppliers, and send a booking request. You pay 15% online (our commission) and the request is forwarded to the supplier. The supplier has up to 90 minutes during business hours (08:00–22:00) to accept or decline. Once accepted, your booking is confirmed and you receive a confirmation email with pickup details. The remaining 85% is paid in cash at pickup.
Is my booking instantly confirmed?+
Not immediately. Every booking waits for the supplier to accept it (usually within an hour). This is because suppliers verify availability, check the customer profile, and coordinate pickup. If the supplier does not respond within 90 minutes, your booking is automatically cancelled and your 15% prepayment is fully refunded.
What happens if the supplier declines my booking?+
You receive an email with the reason (unavailable, force majeure, etc.), and your prepayment is refunded within 5–7 business days to your original payment method. If a similar alternative vehicle is available at another supplier, we may propose it to you.
Can I book without creating an account?+
Yes. Just provide your name, email, and phone at checkout. Your confirmation goes to the email you provide, and you can track your booking with the reference number (RF-XXXXXX).
Payments, prices & fees
How much do I pay online vs at pickup?+
You pay 15% of the total online at booking (this is our commission). The remaining 85% is paid in cash directly to the supplier when you pick up the car. This split means suppliers get most of the money without payout delays, and you have a real financial commitment before the supplier holds a car for you.
What payment methods are accepted?+
Online: Visa, Mastercard, and (soon) local Albanian cards via raiAccept. At pickup: cash in EUR or ALL is universally accepted. Some suppliers also accept card at pickup — this varies, so ask when the supplier confirms your booking.
Are there any hidden fees?+
No. The daily rate you see includes standard third-party insurance provided by the supplier. Extras like child seat, GPS, additional driver, or cross-border fee are shown clearly before you confirm and only added if you select them.
Do I need to pay a security deposit?+
Most suppliers require a refundable deposit at pickup, typically held via a credit card authorisation (not charged unless there is damage). The deposit amount is shown on each vehicle page — usually €200–€800 depending on the vehicle category.
Cancellation & refunds
Can I cancel my booking?+
Yes, but the refund depends on timing.
Before the supplier accepts: free cancellation, full refund of the prepayment.
After acceptance, more than 48 hours before pickup: full refund of the 15%.
After acceptance, less than 48 hours before pickup: the 15% prepayment is non-refundable.
What if I do not show up at pickup?+
No-shows are not refundable. The supplier may also charge a no-show fee based on their rental agreement. If you are running late, contact the supplier directly using the phone number in your confirmation email — most will hold the car if you communicate.
How long do refunds take?+
Refunds are processed within 3 business days on our side. Depending on your bank, the funds appear in your account 5–10 business days after we process. You receive an email confirmation once the refund is issued.
Driver requirements
What is the minimum driver age?+
Most suppliers require a minimum age of 21 with at least 1 year of driving experience. Some premium or SUV categories require 25+ and 3+ years of experience. Each vehicle page shows the exact requirement for that specific car.
What documents do I need at pickup?+
Valid driving licence (held for at least 1 year), passport or ID card, and a credit card in the main driver's name for the security deposit. EU licences are accepted directly. Non-EU licences (US, UK, etc.) are widely accepted; an International Driving Permit may help but is not always required.
Can I add an additional driver?+
Yes. Most suppliers charge a small fee (€2–€5/day) for additional drivers. Add it as an extra during checkout, or arrange it directly with the supplier at pickup.
Cross-border & routes
Can I drive to Montenegro, Kosovo, or Greece?+
Yes, most suppliers allow cross-border travel to Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece — usually for an additional fee (€25–€50 for the entire trip) that covers the green card insurance extension. Each vehicle page shows which countries are allowed.
Is the car insured outside Albania?+
Yes, when you pay the cross-border fee, the supplier extends the insurance and provides a green card that you must carry at the border. Without paying this fee, driving abroad may void your insurance — do not risk it.
Can the car handle the road to Theth or Valbona?+
These mountain roads have some rough sections. A standard car is fine in summer, but a 4x4 or high-clearance SUV is more comfortable and safer, especially outside July–September. Ask the supplier when you book — they know their fleet and the roads.
